You do not have to speak in tongues to receive a born-again experience with God. The purpose of the baptism with the Holy Spirit is to empower us to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8). It provides an inner power that becomes an outward force to bring the reality of Jesus Christ to others. To help release this power, the baptism with the Holy Spirit gives the Christian a new tongue with which to praise and pray to God. Speaking in tongues also helps Christians to build up their faith (Jude 20).

An American preacher came and preached “healing and salvation” once in Winnipeg. A friend of mine went and saw this preacher pray for a person’s legs to be evened out while that person sat in a chair with one leg extended farther than the other. The short leg appeared to grow to be of equal length to the other. While my friend marveled at this, the preacher asked him if he would like to be able to do something like that. And at the end of our brief pilgrimage through this world, He will address each one of us personally, by our Baptism name, and say, "Come, my son or daughter (name), inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world". This we know for certain because we have been baptised in His name.
